Wonderful reminders of rules that should apply to everything we do in our lives. I especially like "treat the person, not just the patient." Thanks!

Dr. Gorczyca, There are certainly many roads to take when managing this team dilemma. Sometimes the preparation for a meeting is where the teaching can take place. Perhaps both front and back should look at it and come prepared and either manage at the end of the day with a quick discussion vs. a whole separate meeting. Premature "death" is something to be avoided by every team. Thanks for your comment.. :)and the tip on coack K's book (haven't read that one yet)

Interesting article.

I think the "back office" should complete the data for the meeting, not the front, wasn't that where the problem was?

One assistant, one column would solve this. The most important thing is what time the appointment ends and ending on time.

Maybe the doctor talks too much.

This could have taken 1 minute if they had all meet at 5 p.m. and if the front desk were a team player who has good communication with the back instead of going to the doctor. Reminds me of something I read in a book once, "Death by Meeting". Take care of problems in the present!

I'm glad I don't have these problems in my office!

Best wishes!

P.S. Another great teamwork book :Teamwork by Coach K.

This is a nice take on a subtle topic with potentially great results. My dentist invested in an automatic bread-making machine; every few hours, a loaf is finished (hmm, maybe the process makes us salivate more?) and one patient is chosen at random to take the loaf home. This beats a clinically clean smell every time.

That's a great article! We often goto other dental offices, and my staff will compliment them with "their office smells like a dental office!" I often wondered what that could have meant? They liked Bed, Bath and Beyond type smell... although I would have preferred a hotel lobby smell!
